I think it was a rather lackluster cask to blame in this case. The 14 years just didn't smooth out the spirit and add the usual complexity. Maybe another few years would've helped, maybe not.

Thanks for the comments!

I think this sort of dram is one of my biggest disappointments, where you know exactly what you want it to be, you have an idea of where it wants to go, but it just hasn't quite got there - i suppose there's just a hope that there's another cask of this somewhere waiting those few years more that it needs....

I was at a tour recently, had a chance to try their clearac, and unpeated, they do seem rather tasty - but then, the french make all their Eau de Vie's, which as essentailly clearac using another base - raspberry is meant to be particularly good. The idea of the peated one just does nothing for me though.

Interestingly enough, after a bit of badgering, I too received a sample from The Baddish Group. My review will be up tomorrow. Not nearly as engaging and well written as your review or Ryan's, but I did my best. All I can say for now about this whisky is that I REALLY enjoyed it. Totally lived up to the hype. Thankfully, a friend has a bottle that he received for Christmas, so hopefully I'll get to try this again.

Once again, great review! And thanks for the history lesson.

Cheers!

Nice job bringing some interesting facts about the expedition that I hadn't seen before! I was lucky enough to get a bottle of this for Christmas (it's gone... except for a couple minis I poured off), and it is REALLY good whisky, beyond just the historical hype. Nice review.

Yo Peter!

I got the official invite last week. I have no doubt that Yossi and company will be putting out a great product. And as usual, there's quite a bit of wit and wisdom on display on their website. I wish them great success!

Cheers!
